Obedience is a bitter pill.
And once you’ve had enough
Shoved down your throat
You start to feel this foe relief–
That the world is calm.
The the pain will stop.
If you just keep marching on
In the direction
He points you in.
You swallow the lies–
That there will be peace in the violence
If only you will obey him.
You swallow it again.
And again.
Begging for that moment of relief.
That moment of peace.
But that’s the trick,
The secret they keep,
These powerful men.
The peace never comes.
You just keep on swallowing
Until you’re bloated and rotting.
Until they’ve taken every ounce of light,
You’ve ever had.
You could run.
You have a choice.
Many do not.
But you. You do.
Maybe in the past you did not,
But now. You do.
Don’t you?
You swallow their pills,
Basking in the glow of them
Telling you that you swallow so well.
They keep you blind,
To the path ahead.
Blind to the truth that,
You are their lamb.
Headed towards
Their slaughter.
Because you obey them
So damn well.
In fact,
You’ve become quite the weapon
For them.
Finding other lambs,
And putting the bitter pills
Down their throats yourself.
Saving him from the mess
Of having to do it himself.
They have your power,
Your dignity,
Because you obey him,
So damn well.
